Pine needles after heavy rain.

The rain had pushed all the needles together.

Hanging needles 2.

Sycamore leaf bud.

Leaves opening on sycamore sapling.

Another tree that leafs quite early, with rich colours.

Leaves opening on mature sycamore.

Young beech leaves casting shadows.

The smooth bark of the beech is a lovely setting for leaf shadows.

Misty trees at Normanby Hall.

Taken in November 2003. The lamp in the background isn't lit, it's the sunlight shining on it.

Quercus rubra - red oak.

No prizes offered for why it's called the red oak.

I passed this horse chestnut on a country lane and screeched to a stop to see it more closely. It had the biggest, fattest conkers I've ever seen. The cases were the size of small oranges.
