General description

Clump forming perennial grass with arching green leaves. 'Silberfeder' flowers well in cooler climates. up to 2m high with a spread of 1.2m.

  2. Upright, silvery/pinkish plumes, held straight, becoming white and fluffy with age.

  3. Reddish-brown stems.

  4. Strap like leaves with pale centre, green or reddish-orange edges.

Soil

Well drained, light, moist. Will also grow in soil that doesn't dry right out in summer, which may be preferable as the plant can get a bit rampant when planted in ideal conditions.

Hardy.

Maintenance

Cut back to top of new growth in April and take out any old growth using comb action with a hand fork. The leaf edges are sharp so wear thick gloves.

Propagation

Divide in spring or early summer.
